Global Talk Radio Pulls The Plug On New Talk Show Hosts
A week or so Global Talk Radio sent out an invitation to who knows how many individuals offering them a chance to host their own Radio Program FREE. Keep in mind, they stated that only TWO shows would be accepted. This is a common “scarcity strategy” to get people to act quickly on an offer. I have enclosed a copy of what was sent to us initially… Here it is…
==================================================================

Sound simple enough, so I entered and sent my resume and show idea for an Internet Entrepreneur’s Radio Show. Voila… I was accepted…. So I forwarded it on to a friend of mine and guess what… his show was accpeted. Now what are the odds on that, especially when I sent it to him a week after I had turned mine in. But it gets better…
Today I received a notice that the show had been cancelled due to many of the hosts pulling out…
Wait a minute… Too MANY of the hosts pulling out? I thought only two shows were accepted and I know, my friend and did no such thing. Here’s where it gets nasty. I sent an email back saying that for one it was in poor taste to cancel on us since we had already planned the shows and invied guests and started promoting the shows. Below is the exchange between myself and the show producer Kevin Dawson from Global Talk Radio.
==================================================================
Dear Prospective Host,
I truly regret to inform you that we have cancelled the free talk show production indefinitely.
The reason for this is that there were too many complaints from would-be hosts that they didn’t want listeners to go through a survey to hear their show. While we completely understand your concerns, the other side is that those advertisers were covering the cost of production so that you wouldn’t be out any expense. Unfortunately, there’s no such thing as a free lunch. So, without the surveys, there’s no free production either… and that’s a loss for both of us, because we felt you had a winning show concept.
I truly apologize for the inconvenience. We’re cancelling shows now, before they begin production, to minimize the impact on your planning.
As a gesture of good faith, we are hereby offering to give each of you a FREE ONE-TIME SHOW (provided that it’s produced before February 28th), which will be part of our Public Access Radio feature (http://www.globaltalkradio.com/shows/publicaccessradio) . If you want to take us up on the offer, let me know and we’ll coordinate a day & time with you.
In addition, we do still offer the traditional weekly hosting packages (Silver and Gold) which are host-sponsored and have no surveys for listeners to take. If you’re interested, please read more at http://www.globaltalkradio.com/hostashow.htm.
Hopefully, we’ll be able to work together in the future.
Sincerely,
Kevin Dawson

Here’s My My reply:
Nothin like leaving egg on the face of everyone that signed up for your program….
Incredibly unprofessional to say the least….
I’m afraid all 41,000 followers on twitter will not be happy to hear what you guys have pulled.
And then to hit us up with a sales pitch…. Whomever’s in charge needs a lesson in marketing.
Mick
==================================================================
Mick,
I’m really not interested in your hate mail.
And yes, by all means, please post all over Twitter that we cancelled free production because the hosts, who didn’t want to pay for production, also didn’t want their listeners to do anything either. There is a common myth that internet businesses are support to operate for free. I wonder if I should tell our landlord, utilities, insurance company, server hosting service, etc., that they should work for free, too?
Don’t blame us. Blame the other hosts who all backed out at the last minute, because they wanted a truly free lunch (and then some).

For not being interested in my so called hate mail,
you managed to take the time to send me a lengthy response.
First… This isn’t directed at you, I realize you are just the messenger.
This is for whomever had the bright idea to offer this program and then pull the plug
after getting people onboard and promoting that they had a show coming up.
This was unethical to say the least and made several of us look unprofessional.
“oops sorry… the show was cancelled do to poor planning”
I’m sure that will go a long way with the guests I had lined up.
To pin this on “The Hosts” that backed out only proves my point that there were..
1. more than two shows accepted… This is false advertising and totally unethical.
2. this was a ploy to get hosts to pay for their own shows.
This isn’t hate mail, just FYI that the way GTR handled this was poor at best.
I’m not blaming anyone and neither should you. That’s operating below the line of integrity.

Mick,
Truly amazing.
Based on your emails, I take it you fall into the “I deserve a free lunch” category?
Obviously, we won’t be working together in the future. If you are on our contact list, please let me know what email address, and I’ll be happy to unsubscribe you.
Kevin

Amazing isn’t even close…
You just don’t get it.
I walk the walk and most definitely would have paid for a premium account in order to take live callers.
But you’re so blind to the fact that you offered something and then cancelled without any consequence to your hosts. that all you can do is play hate mail with me.
Now I know why you work for someone else, you wouldn’t make it on your own.
Keep the emails coming and I will post them on my blog.
Should be fun for the next couple of days and definite fodder for the Social Media.
I will send you a link to my blog so you can retort… seems only fair,
Don’t worry about unsubscribing… I already unsubscribed myself for you.
Have a great weekend.
Dedicated To Your Success,
Mick Moore
